You can add files (e.g. songs or videos) just by dragging and dropping from a Windows Explorer window. That works well for videos from a thumbnail view, and for songs providing you know the name.
I think the current song dialog is a little confusing, because it tries to handle too many things: creating songs, loading them, editing them, and searching for them.
When the band decides to sing a song that wasn't in the plan, it takes longer than it should to get the words on the screen: 1) find an empty clip slot, 2) right-click for pop-up menu, 3) Add clip, 4) Song, 5) click in the Search field, 6) type the text to search, 7) click the desired song in the results, 8) click OK, 9) pop-up menu on the new Song clip, 10) Layer, 11) Layer 2, and finally 12) click the clip to display it. I could save a step by just clicking the empty clip slot, but then I have to search for Song in the clip type dialog, and the order changes (not a bad idea in general, but not good when you're in a hurry).
One thing that would help is if ScreenMonkey responded more to the keyboard, and the focus was in a sensible field to start with. E.g. 1) Press Ctrl+S to add a new song 2) type the text to search, 3) press Down cursor to select the desired song from the results, 4) Press Enter to OK the addition of the song, 5) Press Ctrl+2 to set the new clip to layer 2, 6) Press Ctrl+Enter to display the new clip. Steps 5 & 6 would require the concept of "just added clip", which may or may not be something you want, but the rest should be relatively easy to implement, and would really help - particularly with songs, where your hands have to be on the keyboard anyway.
