I think I would like to open it out to the comunity to create a plugin for this and I they will have my full support. Afraid I simply don't have the time to do this.

That is understandable.  I don't even know if there are costs associated with using the various Bible translations out there.

Is the current ESV clip pulling its data from a text file or something that can be edited?  Also, for the programmers out there, the program "theWord" is free and has several Bible translations...I am just wondering if it might be possible to pull the content from that program.

The ESV clip gets its content from the net. E-sword has lots of translations too, and pretty much all translations can be found somewhere on the net. The problem is the copyright, and in particular the large sums some copyright holders want to allow their translation to be used in a program - e.g. for the NIV it's a five-figure sum just for an advance, and then a per-copy fee.

One interesting translation that I've only just become aware of is the NET Bible, http://net.bible.org. In terms of translation principles it's close to the NIV, and it's available for free.

My suggestion is to make a plugin that uses XML Bibles.  Don't make any Bible officially available through Screen Monkey.  It is, then,  up to the individual user to secure Bible versions and permission to display them.  This is pretty much the method OpenSong uses with good success.  A resource for XML Bible translations is Zefania on Source Forge.  http://sourceforge.net/projects/zefan...

Hi all,

I have started work on creating a plugin that will read and display .xmm formatted bibles (some of the ones Opensong has on their' download page are in this format).

I'm a former Opensong user that has converted to ScreenMonkey myself, so I am familiar with both programs. I studied programming in college, but they never taught C# where I went. So I've had a bit of a learning curve to do this.

What I have done so far I have uploaded to let all who are willing to see and try it. But please consider this a pre-alpha stage plugin and know that this is VERY FAR from usable in a service yet, in my opinion. This is more of a proof of concept right now.

If you want to download it, here's where I have put it:

www.computerinstallationrepair.com/downloads/BiblePlugin.zip

There is no installer - unzip it and read the readme.txt file inside for details on how to use.

And also, there are many bugs in this - so be warned! As I get spare time, I will work on it.

Ollie, if you want the Visual C# 2010 Express project for this I will give it to you. After that, I will upload it for others to work on, if he wishes.

I hope this can be the beginning to a more usable Bible plugin we are all looking for.

Thank you Ollie for a great program, and I hope this can eventually help make it better.

Andy

Update: I just added support for Zelfania translations in the plugin as well.
