Windows 7 allows you to assign the audio output of different programs to different soundcards. My Laptop has an external 5.1 soundcard. This is great because I like to assign the media programs (WMP, VLC, etc.) to the card yet retain the onboard audio output as default so that windows alerts and internet explorer are not accidentally sent over the sound system.
However it appears that functionality has to be designed into each program.
 I cannot find any reference in the forums on assigning audio output to which card.
Is it possible? Am I missing a button or a right click somewhere?
