Hi there,

I've been looking all over the site to find some info on how the patch>out is handled in the Pro version.
I want to pixelmap some CMY fixtures. Does SM come with a library of some sorts, or do I have to manually patch the corresponding dmx channels one by one?
Perhaps someone knows, or has a link to the manual?

Kind regards,

Bhagat

Firstly I apologise that the help on this is slightly lacking. This is something I am working on.

You need to create your own fixtures using the Pixel Mapper Editor. Under Display Renderer in Settings select Edit (assuming you have the Pixel Mapper renderer selected. This will open up a grid.

The first step is to create you fixture so select the group tool from the left hand side and drag out a group which has the same size as your fixture.

Now select the Cell tool which is just bellow the group tool. Once you have sselected the cell tool you can also select a Patch Preset which already contains most of the common channel layouts. So select RGB if you have a RGB fixture.

Select a cell within the group you created to create the first cell of the fixture. It will be probably be assigned a start channel of 1 but you can change this from the properties on the left hand side.

Now start adding more cells until you have added all the cells in the fixture. The start channel will be auto assigned. This can always be editted using the properties.

Once you have finished 1 fixture you need to save it so you can add many. Select the whole group by using the selection tool.

In the Fixtures section, click on the save icon to save the fixture. Enter a name for your fixture.

To add more of this fixture select it from the Fixture Library and use the Create Fixture Tool which is the bottom tool to add many to your pixel map.

The DMX address of each fixture is set by selecting the fixture and then editting the "Base Address" which is in the format ArtNet Universe, Address.

If you let me know the fixture you need, I can create it to get you started.

Come back to me if you need more help.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I'm glad it is possible. I'll be using GLP Impressions, but not sure yet which flavour exactly.
I'll get back to you.

Kind regards,

Bhagat

Hi,

While still getting to grips with SM, I'm also figuring out the DMX sheet. After all, if I want to use this functionality, I'll have to write a fixturelib for my desk. Or do you perhaps know someone who has one for MA2?
Anyway, a few questions :
In the master section, ch1, one selects DMX control and profiles. Is this DMX on/off?
The profiles, where can I see in what order is which? The order in which I make them in SM?

Layer 1 section
Playback, shouldn't there be more functionality, first frame lastframe?
Clip select is 16 bit, does this mean I can choose from 65535 clips? I believe I've read that SM can handle 6 times 99 clips.
Aside from that, it maybe is hard to navigate in a pool that large.
Rate. Is this playback rate? I could not find this functionality in SM.
Zoom, Offset XY, Width, height and rotation. Is this functionality meant for the clips, or for making profiles, see question above.

Then you have the Color scheme 'layer', and I assume that colour 1,2,3,4 refer to layer 1,2,3,4? And that enabling it, enables it for all layers?
If so, I wonder why you have chosen to make this a separate entity, instead of incorporating it in each layer.

I have many more questions, I hope you don't mind,

Regards,

Bhagat

Hi Bhagat

I know that many users of SM have MA's so there must be a personality out there somewhere. I had a quick look on the MA website and I can not find one for MA. I know that Avolites and Chamsys have already published SM personalities so it might be worth contacting MA to see if they will write one for you. I am not sure if MA supports CITP but if they do it would be worth making sure they add this too.

Yes Ch1 DMX Control is a partial DMX on/off. It turns off the layout settings such as width, height, zoom etc. However the Clip Select and play channels will still function.

Yes you can choose from 65535 clips. The 6x99 is a legacy number and it has now been changed to unlimited.

I normally leave it up to the console to handle the navigation. On other consoles you can group the clips into banks or with CITP just search for the clips.

Yes rate is playback rate although it is not supported by all clip types. The Effect Generator clips support it. I think video also supports it but only through DMX.

Zoom, Offset XY, Width, height and rotation, these are applied to the DMX control profile. So when this profile is selected the DMX settings are applied to the layer. This in turn modifies the clips.

The colour scheme is largly applicable for effect generator clips. The effect generaator allows you to create animated shapes and they select from 4 colours. So this is independant of the layer. 1 effect clip uses all 4 colours. This is very handy when using effect generator as you effects colour scheme can be linked to your console. What I expect you are thinking about is layer colour adjustment. This is not a feature of V3.5 but is included in V3.6 which I can let you have a beta of if you like.

Please feel free to ask as many questions as you like!
