Releasing the source
Hey first time with software think it's excelent, just what I've had my eye out for for a few years, it'd be perfect for my church too, I'm really keen to follow the develepment of this great program as it seems to almost have a monopoly and definetly massive potential due to the plugin system.

I'd just like to enquire about the possibility of making the project open source or not necessarily going the whole hogg and just releasing the source code for some of us to play with?

If wanted I feel this is a project I could contribute to, I code primarily in C# and am too interested in porting windows applications to linux, let me know...

Re: Releasing the source
I am glad you like the softwarew and I feel the same way that there realy is not anything else quite like Screen Monkey. That is partly why I wrote the software.

I am open to suggestions of making the code open source but I have little experience with open source projects. I would want to do some research and consider the implications before doing so.

I do realise though that to ensure Screen Monkey stays the program it is, I will need to open the source to other developers. I already have one such developer and am interested in recruiting more.

You may have realised from reading this forum that porting Screen Monkey to Linux is something I am keen on but have not quite found the time to do. My main stumbling block is that allot of the video is in DirectX and this is something that does not port well to linux. Maybe you have some ideas on this but I would definately be interested in letting you have a go.

Another area of the project I am looking for help in is writting an OpenOffice Impress clip. This is proving to be very difficult and has so far required me to be involved in the open source project so I can expand the API enough to be suitable for use in Screen Monkey. Again though, this has kind of gone on the top shelf in favour of other features.

I will be in contact again to discuss this further.

Re: Releasing the source
Hi thanks for getting back to me so quickly and I'm sure you'll let us know what you decide on having read about open sourcing a project .
I recon I could work on like the look and feel of the application, although it does what it's supposed to do perfectly  (almost ) I've found a few clunky bits or bugs which don't make the app behave exactly as expected in all situations and have a few things in mind I could get to work on.
In addition I'd like to be able to work on expanding the library of plug-ins, the Google earth one is excellant, exactly what I was looking for for something else and found it here!
Look forward to hearing from you
