This forum post talks about transparent PNG clips not songs. To make a song transparent simply set the background to None in the diaplay options for the clip. It should not matter what version of Vista you have.

 Sorry about the topic mixup. 

I have done the "None" setting for the song background but it does not have an effect. I can only select colors and JPEGS. PNG's don't have any effect.

Say I pick red as a background color [or set a Jpeg as the background]. Then when I select "None" for the picture background and then click Apply/OK nothing happens. Same when I then select a PNG for the background, nothing happens.

Any ideas?

I see now, when it comes to song backgrounds you have 3 options None, Colour or Image you can not mix the two. If you want to use images with transparent backgrounds then put them on a seperate layer and set the song background to none.

 Solved the Problem :-)

You need to set The background to "none" at the the song creation screen and it will work. Setting the Background to "none" after the song creation does nothing. 

I'm a happy man :)
